CNN vs CNA

itunes: Momento, Bebel Gilberto

Sigh, my PC recovered and it's my mobile phone's turn now. My PC simply refused to recognise it after empteen times of connecting and disconnecting the cable, uninstall and reinstall the driver. So the person that I mentioned I'm going to shame in my previous blog is not going to happen today. Surely I will get it up real soon hehe. Instead I have got something to shame CNA (Channel NewsAsia) a bit today.

I was doing cardio in my gym at 7am this morning when one of the 42 inch Samsung flatscreen tvs in front of me, CNN has been flashing the breaking news footages of the Airbus 320 crushed into building in San Paulo almost every 5 minutes till 7.30am. On the other tv, the pathetic CNA morning news reported the same piece of news by merely showed the map of Brazil with a reference to the city of San Paulo, 2 - 3 times perhaps during the same period that's all.

Anyway, out of curiousity, I visited CNA website and read about this organisation:

"Established in March 1999, Channel NewsAsia positions itself as an Asian TV News channel, fully complemented by English and Chinese online portals that provide news and information on global developments with Asian perspectives."

"vision is to become one of Asia’s top media companies by delivering valued content to the world."

"Channel NewsAsia is created for Asians by Asians."

As a top new agency in Singapore with satellite sites all over Asia, is not it amazing that CNA cant secure the first hand footages of such news event like this? Or should I comfort myself by saying that since CNA is a media created for Asians by Asians, so breaking news from South America will not be put much emphasis here. I see I see, so I guess CNA will have a looooooooooooooooong way to prove itself as a world class like CNN. Oh yes, I almost forget, it seems CNA does not aspire to be world class like all of our government agencies here do, or it is because CNA simply want to be one of the best in Asia. hmmmm did I say CNA is Singapore government-linked company?
